Ghana

There are four churches in Ghana which are currently in transition to join the Vineyard. Vineyard North church desires to work with these churches to smooth the transition. A conference is planned for May 2019 in Accra, Ghana to bring church leaders together from both Ghana and Vineyard USA.

The partnership also seeks to bring a medical missions component to Ghana, particularly with regard to women’s health. Maternity health, preventative screenings and education are among the top priorities for this missions partnership.

Accra is the capital of Ghana, and a city of nearly 4 million people. It is the largest city in Ghana and is situated on the Gulf of Guinea. While there are more than 250 languages and dialects spoken in Ghana, English is the official language of the country. There is no official religion in Ghana. As the education and commerce center of the country, many people emigrate from other parts of the country to Accra for better working and educational opportunities.

About Ghana

Ghana, a nation on West Africa’s Gulf of Guinea, is known for diverse wildlife, old forts and secluded beaches, such as at Busua. Ghana's economy was strengthened by a quarter century of relatively sound management, a competitive business environment, and sustained reductions in poverty levels, but in recent years has suffered the consequences of loose fiscal policy, high budget and current account deficits, and a depreciating currency. Ghana has a market-based economy with relatively few policy barriers to trade and investment in comparison with other countries in the region. Ghana is well-endowed with natural resources.

Partnership Leader:
Akwasi Boaky

Akwasi and Millie Boakye planted and pastored churches in Africa before joining Vineyard Columbus, where they later served in various ministries. In 2013, they were released to plant Vineyard North church in Columbus.

As senior pastors, they currently lead the Ghana missions partnership of Vineyard missions USA, transitioning some of their former churches in Ghana into the Vineyard, with hopes of planting more churches. They envision a “relevant and major Vineyard movement in Ghana touching the sub-Saharan region”.
